Page1/12 The Jataka or horoscope consists of twelve houses. The names of these houses are as under. Hindu

Western Names 1. Mesha
Aries These
are the twelve houses around which our destiny revolves, bringing us joy,
sorrow, height, depression and disappointments etcetra. The framework of
the above twelve houses is drawn by Hindus as shown

As shown in the diagram Sun and
Moon own only one house each where as others own two
houses. Aries governs head. Taurus
governs face. Gemini governs chest. Cancer governs heart Leo governs
belly. Virgo governs waist. Libra governs the loins. Scorpeo governs the
sexual parts. Sagitarius governs the thighs, Capricorn governs the knees.
Aquarius governs the buttocks. Pisces governs the
feet. The above signs are grouped in
three categories as movable, fixed, and common according to their nature.
The grouping is as under.
Now certain inherent qualities are ascribed to each sign. These are as follows:- Aries or Mesha :- Fiery, male and rises with hind-part. Taurus
or Vrishabha :- Female, mild, earthy, and rises with
hind-part. Gemini
or Mithuna :- Male, cruel, airy, barren and rises with
hind-part. Cancer
or Kataka :- Female, mild, watery, and rises with its
hind-part. Leo
or Simha :- Male, cruel, fiery, barren rises by
head. Virgo
or Kanya :- Female, mild, earthy, rises by head. Libra
or Thula :- Male, cruel, airy, also rises by head. Scorpeo
or Vrischika :- Female, mild, watery, rises by head. Sagitarius
or Dhanu :- Male, cruel, fiery, rises by hind-part. Capricorn
or Mukra :- Female, mild, earthy rising by hinder
part. Aquarius
or Kumbha :- Male, cruel, fruitful, airy, rising by
head. Pisces
or Meena :- Female, mild, watery, rises by
hind-part. Apart
from what has been described in the foregoing lines Mesha
:- Resembles a ram, indicates and governs surface of earth, shrubs,
mineral tracts, inferior jungles, caves, hills, and grazing
grounds Vrishabha
:- Characterizes bull, cultivated lands, cowsheds, farms and
forest. Mithuna
:- Characterizes twins, governs shoulders, hands, gambling places, hunting
grounds, musicians, dancing women, places of sexual enjoyment, clubs and
gardens. Kataka
:- Like a crab, governs, lakes, ponds, sandbanks, holy-places, and angelic
sites. Simha
:- A lion, indicates forests, caves, jungles, hunting place, hills, peaks
of mountains. Kanya
:- A virgin, arts, green – meadows, female, pleasure – rooms, pasture,
lands, cow-dung. Thula
:- A man with balance in hand, merchants, companies, pits, commercial
places, godowns, places of sex-enjoyment. Vrischika
:- Underground holes, dirty places, dustbins, dark-retreats, cervices,
depressions and serpents all. Dhanu
:- With bow in hand half man and half animal governs, plains, tents,
chariots, calves, crocodiles, cracks, depressions. Makara
:- Governs rivers, watery places, crocodiles, calves, cracks in the ground
etc. Kumbha
:- Water-pots, lower half of leg, marshy-lands, places where birds dwell,
ruined houses, brothel house, toddy-shops, and gambling
houses. Meena :- Sea, ponds, lakes, holy places, shrines, and places of pilgrimage, congress of holy men, watery places. |
